Tough Times don't last.

If you had a magic wand, what 3 wishes would you request?

Wouldn't life be amazing if we all got what we deserve? I know, I know if you are a bad person you are probably answering to this no.

But think about it, I would request for good life and behold I would be rich in health and wealth. and what else would I want.

Baseline 101

Back to reality, the Kenyan economy is tough; fuel prices have sky rocketed affecting everything consumable, politicians are looting left, right and center. The rich are getting richer, while the poor are getting poorer.

The rates of unemployment are increasing day by day while many graduates are graduating. It is ironical that what makes Kenya a 3rd World country, is lack of enough skilled labor, but the population is now more skilled and there is no need for their labor. I don't know whether you get it.

I think, its a case of biting more than you can chew. Listen to the logic behind it, what's the average number of kids in a local Kenyan household? probably 2-4 kids. In more developed countries for example China 1-2 kids is the average. This means that children born in this household would benefit from vast resources available. But in our country sorry to say, children are more than the resources.

I know its a controversial opinion, but what if the number of children a household can have is controlled and limited? This means the government could provide resources and everyone could benefit from them. But who am I kidding, the politicians would probably steal a higher percentage of resources now that the population have reduced.

Regardless, we all have to survive in this tough times with the pandemic and tough economy. Here's a few tips;

Tips to survive in Kenya 101

1. Get a hobby or learn a new skill.

A certain book says you should get 3 hobbies, one to keep you fit, another one to keep you happy and sane and most importantly one to make you money. Hobbies such as painting, dancing, running among others could help you sort your bills.

2. Enroll in online jobs

Most people in the country use social media, if you would find a way to maximize your screen time on apps such as Instagram, Facebook  among others, then you could make some extra cash.

If you have no idea how to start doing online gigs, you could try enrolling in trainings and webinars. A good example would be Ajira Digital, a FREE government training program that teaches interested participant on different skills such as marketing, transcription, writing among others.

If that is still not enough you could start the journey on your own, but be sure not to be scammed on the online streets. Remember by being naïve, vulnerable and desperate you could be easily manipulated and scammed. The Kenyan streets will capitalize on teaching you that. Remember, quick cash could mean quick loss. When the deal is too good please think twice.

3. Get a job

If you do love consistency and the peace of mind of knowing that you have money at the end of the month. Then I would suggest getting a job, commonly a 8am-5pm job, with a salary paid monthly or weekly depending on the organization.

If that is still not your cup of tea, then you could get yourself a 'mubaba/mumama' of your choice. If you are a Kenyan, that clearly needs no explanation, and you could get your dreams come true, get paid vacations and gifts among others.

How could I forget this last point? As of recent findings, you could also get married, good thing if you are from the Eve gender, you could get a Wife allowance and thrive.

All in all, despite the hard circumstances, by thinking out of the box and being innovative you can survive any hardships. Just believe that you can do anything you put your mind to and don't forget to do what makes you happy!
